Forumite Profile: Gary Aswegan

Gary Aswegan is a fixture on the TD boards, currently in the number one poster position. He is a cleric at heart, and his magic mace is feared far and wide. He also is a Tavern volunteer.

1) Who are you? Tell us a little about yourself.
Well my name is Gary and I am a tokenaholic...hmmm... sorry, wrong speech...well enough about that.

I guess the quick synopisis on me is: I'm a gamer - always have been, always will be. I hope to always be a kid at heart and playing games is how I plan to keep that going. Collecting, be it tokens, comics, mini/action figs, tokens, CCG cards, tokens or games in general is also a hobby, in case anyone was in doubt. But enough about me - this is a TD thang...

2) How did you first hear about True Dungeon?
I first came across TD in 2004 at GenCon SoCal. A couple of my buddies said I had to try this great real-life adventure...and they were right, I was hooked from then on. I've been lucky enough to get my wife to take care of our three kids so that I can go Geek out at INDY as well so I am a 5 time participant, and 2 year volunteer.

3) What is your current involvement with True Dungeon, and how did you get there?
Well I'm a volunteer/player/information resource/forumite...I guess I got here because TD was so much fun - I had to find a way to do something TDish all year round. Going to the forum daily and coming up with stuff that helps TD along is the best way I could think of to help support TD and keep things fun for me. I try to do what I can year-round to keep TD right in front of me every day.

4) What is your fondest True Dungeon memory?
Well now we are only at quesion #4 and already the hard ones come out.

I guess I have to say every TD run is my fondest memory. The friends I have made are fantastic and really put icing on the TD cake.

...yeah I know that is more than one memory in all of that, but I just could not put one thing on top. All the friends I've met and all the causes we have come together to overcome! From the Hurricane Katrina auction run, to finally getting Sis to venture into the dungeon, to Heidi and Elfire trying to distract me from getting the right bead...even Jeff himself taking me hostage (I wasn't THAT scared Jeff! - ok maybe just a little...but Silkies response was funnier...I thought he was going to either pull my arm off - or just not let go and be taken as well) ahhh so many good times.

5) Why do you think True Dungeon has been so successful? Will it last?
Of course TD will last - for as long as it is FUN and enjoyable for all. At least that is what my heart tells me. But you know behind all the FUN customers have - there is a ton of not so fun WORK involved...we all just have to hope the drive is alive in Jeff and those who toil over the not so fun things, like volunteer scheduling, hotel room bookings, getting sodas/waters for volunteers to drink...etc. As for the success of TD - well it is a GREAT event, I think almost everyone that does a run has to admit that it is unique and fun! NUFF said!

6) If you had the power to instantly make one change to True Dungeon, what would it be and why?
One change...I guess making TD something that could happen more than once a year - without losing money, or burning people out...I just think something this cool needs to happen more often than paying taxes.

7) What do you see in True Dungeon's future?
ME - I'm not going anyplace Jeff...hope you don't mind!

8) What are your non-gaming-related interests?
What is a non-gaming-related interest?

Seriously the #1 thing that I do when not gaming is spending time with my wonderful family - but even then I am teaching my three naturally talented gaming boys to appreciate the finer things in video, board, and ccg games...so soon they will be the next generation True Dungeon adventurers...(with some very cool and very old tokens!!!)
